Abstract

Plumbago indica L. (known as Pink Doctorbush) and Plumbago zeylanica L. (also known as Doctorbush) are shrubby, widely distributed throughout the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. The literature reveals their wide range of applications in traditional system of medicines against various diseases, as antiinflammatory,anti-malarial, anti-fertility, antimicrobial, anti-oxidant, wound healing, memory enhancer and anti-cancer. The therapeutic uses of the plant have been attributed to the presence of number of bioactive compounds, such as elliptinone, zeylanone, sistosterol and plumbagin.
